That’s what I spent on groceries this last week.

Now that we’ve move to Prince Rupert, I’m finding food to be a lot more scarce and more expensive than what I’m used to. The local Overwaitea’s produce section is a third of the size of the average grocery store in southern BC. There doesn’t seem to be any farmer’s markets probably in large part because there doesn’t seem to be much food growing here. We’re located on a small island with not a heck of a lot of soil. I am looking forward to driving out to Terrace where I’ve been assured of a nice farmer’s market on Saturdays.

We’ve made some great meals here despite the food challenges. I’ll share what I’m making this week as well as a few meals I made last week when I didn’t do a Weekly Meal Plan. I have a lot of new recipes to share and I’ve taken a few new pictures for old recipes now that I have my new camera.

This week I’m making:

Last week’s notable meals were:

I’m really looking forward to growing some of my own food next year. I have a great plot of land and I have some wonderful gardening friends I can appeal to for suggestions and advice. I’m already formulating a lot of plans…

Happy to hear you sounding inspired to find out what you can grow in that climate. I am sure you’ll be able to grow a bounty with a little research and creativity….

I keep forgetting to tell you there is a family there that is related to a long-time NCHL family, homeschoolers and very great people from what I hear, with kids exactly the same age as Lily and Leif… anyway, she’s a huge gardener and apparently from what I was told, much of the gardening she does is in greenhouses…

    Will email with more info.

Lovely food photos, too. I still can’t get over what a difference a decent camera makes, hey?
