We wanna be free
free from the cages we can’t see
we don’t wanna hide inside this silent suffering

We gotta be strong
We gotta decide what’s right and wrong
Our hearts are alive they never lie to us for long

(Chorus)

The Free never fail
The Free never fold
The Free never hate themselves or let themselves get old
The Free never fight
The Free rise above
The Free never prove themselves they lose themselves in Love

Open your eyes
Your mommy and daddy cried and died
They followed the rules and never thought to wonder why

We’ve gotta be brave
We’ve gotta resist it night and day
The coffin of comfort calls all lovers to their graves

(Chorus)

Are you free?

We first saw Scatterheart at the Edge of the World Music festival on Haida Gwaii. They put on a fantastic show and Lily was completely captivated! We’ve since bought their album and it’s often our first choice when we listen to music.

I’m loving their music too, particularly this song “Are You Free”. I think this idea that being “free” means not believing that anyone can make you feel any which way. You don’t have to be stuck feeling resentful and helpless to make change. You don’t have to settle for the status quo. You can choose to live your life happily and think for yourself! Your life can be full of all kinds of choice if you look for it! At least that’s the way I enjoy reading into the lyrics!

I hope you enjoy this song as much as we do!

Hey, that was awesome! I know the bass player, he’s the son of a close friend of mine, and he’s just the nicest guy. I love seeing the success he’s having.
