Our last trip to Gabriola for a long while was so bittersweet. I’m not even sure if it’s hit me to the core yet that I won’t be going back, next week, next month or even next year. I’m feeling really sad about that. We did a lot this trip.

I’m not sure I’m going to miss the ferry, believe it of not. It’s only 20 minutes long but it’s a real inconvenience getting to the boat on time when you aren’t someone who wears a watch. As usual, we were the last on the ferry, arriving to the terminal in time to drive straight on.

We found lots of cool stuff and enjoyed the hot sun! Caterpillar pets (short term pets put back in the grass), intact snake skin…

We walked to the local farmer’s market and I was so impressed. Most of the produce was sold out by the time we got there but there was so much to be seen. I got a 360′ picture of Malaspina Galleries and a replica antique sign that I’ll show when it’s up in our new house. It’s hilarious. There was gourmet breads and scones, old fashioned liquorice, art and more art, leather works, locally made herbal products, wool things……

The passive solar house was a cool refuge in all that heat. It was incredibly cool inside and the deep roof projection properly kept out the hot summer sun. I hate that I’m not going to see it finished in real life. It’s hard to see in this picture but the stained cedar siding is gorgeous.

The girls having baths in the garden water.

Gabriola Island has so many different beaches. Some sandy, some rocky, some both, some clothing optional- like where we were this day.

Oscar ate crabbies and went after thrown sticks in the water.

We saw three kinds of Jellyfish at this beach and tons of crabs.

We ate sushi! With and without seaweed.

It was a truly wonderful last trip to Gabriola.

Oh I love Gabriola! It is one of my favorite places to go for the summer. I always enjoy the market (which reminds me I need to go back). That house looks very cool.

  3. Wow, that looks like such a fun day for everyone! That’s too bad you’ll miss the finishing up of the house but there’ been so much progress since your last post already. That’s going to be one really nice house.
