At the craft fair/ home learning talent show a little boy did a magic show. A couple days after, out of the blue Lily replicated one of the tricks. She showed us a lit a candle and then put a jar and a cloth (for effect, I’m sure) over the candle. When she took the cloth off, the candle had gone out. She went on to explain to me (what the little boy explained during the show) that it actually went out because it didn’t have enough oxygen to stay lit. We remarked about how much longer it took with a bigger jar than the smaller one the little boy used at the show.
For these photos, Lily used her new orange beeswax candle from our last trip to our local honey house.
Good times. Magician Lily has been renewing her show at least 4 times a week since. I think she needs to learn some new tricks!
You have another hot pad?! Whoah! That was the first thing that came to me since I saw the trick irl. Lucky me! It’s too bad we didn’t stay longer because I’m almost certain so has some good ones up his sleeve.
Those are some very nice photos and you can tell Lily I’m looking forward to seeing her next trick (with or without help from my so).
I got that from my friend Jessica for xmas. We use it as a trivet though because it’s a bit holey for a hot pad in our hands!
I’m sure Lily would love to show you new tricks. Maybe we can find a neat book at the library…
Sounds like a great idea! This reminds me that the season of popsicle stick bridge building is approaching: http://www.apeg.bc.ca/services/branches/documents/vi/2008_pop_rules1.pdf
It requires a lot of patience to make one but at the very least I expect Lily might want to watch them getting tested (broken).
And I’m impressed with the new trivet. Isn’t it amazing what happens when you announce a shortage of something!
Neat, looks like she’s having fun! I’d really love to help you scrapbook some of these blog posts you post haha! They would make great pages.
omg… I love it!!!
I will have to do that with the boys… I know that they will love it too!
I love your blog! I am so glad you stopped by pepperpaints and left a comment to introduce me to your great blog!
L- Oh how cool! I bet Cam would be all over that! Can’t wait to show him!
Lindsay- It’s funny you mention that. I’ve been thinking about how I’d like a irl copy of my blog. I was wondering if there was a plug in that would help me download it but so far my searches haven’t come up with anything.
Kristen- Thanks for coming by. It was my first time at your blog yesterday and I really like it! Those candles you made are outrageously cool!
That is a cool trick! I’ll have to show Hannah.
See if there’s anything good for Lily here – http://www.funology.com/abracadabra/?CFID=103523&CFTOKEN=eb4eaaa252e04afe-AD28B8E3-FAA6-7A30-DCECA3FCB6A8E28B
I have really enjoyed browsing your site, and your links. I am not the best parent when it comes to patience and respect, and I’d like to move a little towards your methods. Thanks for the words of wisdom…I’m enjoying the help finding my place on the continuum.
Thanks, Sarah!
Hi Meg! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Luckily none of us are the perfect parent so we can at least go easy on ourselves knowing that. I’m consider myself an apprentice in patience and enjoy being inspired by others to always do better.
Great “magic show!” I think my kids would like it too. We’ll have to try. Thanks so much for joining in!
