We never want to miss a snow day here. The local climate is moderate year round and snow doesn’t usually stick around for long. I can’t wait for the day I live in a place that has proper winter. I miss snow. I miss skiing. I even like the task of shovelling the snow every year. I want to spend the day out in the snow, skiing or sledding and come home to a wood stove and hot chocolate. That sounds just about right to me.

Snow Day

Cam

This was a first snow of the season and it was gone by the next day. We went for a walk through a green belt in town with friends to enjoy the day. I regret not bringing my camera bag along with us because I could have used my telephoto lens to capture a huge bald eagle in the snow next to the creek. He was craning his neck to look in the water for the last of the spawning fish. Alas, he flew away went I tried to get closer.

Oscar and Kep LOVE the snow. It was last spring that Kep was first introduced to snow and was obviously excited to see it again this day. He runs back and forth biting at the snow. Oscar loves it for a different reason. The snow absorbs impact and offers his almost twelve year old body a comfort when he falls over. I wonder if he remember the many kilometres he’d run tirelessly in deep snow next to the skidoo on our way to spend the day skiing? Those were good times for my old deeg.

Oh, that is a lot! We have had one small snow, but it melted the next day and nothing since (very unusual). Looks fun and beautiful!

great to see you guys out enjoying the snow. we’ve had two snowfalls so far this year, but in each case i haven’t had an opportunity to get out in it. i’m looking forward to the ski hill opening this coming weekend so i can get out on my board, but it’s also nice when there is snow down here just to go for a walk in.

Looks like a wonderful day… Our snow is gone now too. I know the feeling of wanting to get out in it before it goes away… We will have a lot more but it is always good to get those first snow days full of play.

Totally different and yet it reminds me of our walks in the woods next to Doc and Jan’s. And I remember quite vividly how Oscar and Bella would dance around in the snow on ski days. So good!

I’m with you – shovelling snow is something to enjoy. We don’t get to do it nearly enough over here!
