Cam had drawn up plans for a tree fort shortly after moving here but I didn’t actually think it would happen quite so fast. I suppose it hasn’t because only the floor has been put up. We still need the walls, roof, porch railing and staircase. That will have to wait until next days off though.
This fort will be 8 feet wide and 7 feet long with a 2 foot porch on the front and ship ladder up the side. It’s high enough off the ground that you can walk underneath without ducking. The fort will be private and hidden in the trees but we’ll still be able to see it from the house.
I missed getting a picture of all the neighbourhood kids helping hand up the shiplap and trying their hand at hammering nails but that’s okay because I happened to be busy on the phone with our new learning consultant for next year with Wondertree Self Design. I’m practically giddy that she’s taking us on because she was in my top three choices and the only one with a space left.
This picture is taken from the back door of our house. We’ll be doing a bit more pruning of the trees once the building comes together.
I spent the time, trying to clean up an enormous yard waste midden. Someone’s idea of a fort to be surrounded by it all. I’m pretty sure the previous owners wouldn’t have done this because they were an older couple but it’s right behind our house so I wonder who’s it is? I took most of it apart but it’s obviously years old and used not that long ago.
Check out this blue fungus I found:
Nice! Wish we could be there to see it! Cam looks pleased with himself, as he should be. L&L are lucky kids to have such a handy dad.
I love the third picture–the different forms and textures and shades of the foliage. Nice composition!
Hey, I’m dying to know which LC you got! And I’d love to hear all about it. Email if you get a chance!
That fort will be a child’s dream.
And the blue fungus is such a great color…. inspiration for some paint colors in your house maybe? I would!
That fort looks like great fun. We love the blue fungus. Have a great day.
It looks amazing!!! I have some of my best childhood memories from our backyard fort. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
We’re missing the big west coast trees!
What’s a learning consultant? The treehouse looks fabtastic!
Looks awesome! I so wish we were in our own home, with TREES! What is a learning consultant???
The school that Lily’s enrolled in is an online one here in BC. http://www.wondertree.org/
Each learner has a learning consultant who works with the family. They’re available for support and feedback throughout the year. Every week we report what we are doing with learning in mind and the learning consultant turns that into school speak to satisfy the governments learning requirements. In turn the government funds our “school year”. What’s great about the program is that it doesn’t affect the learning by living approach we’re taking with Lily. I report once a week but that’s the only compromise.
My learning consultant is someone who’s unschooled her own kids. They’re now in college and/or travelling. She seems really wonderful and someone I look forward to working with. She’s willing to be as hands on or not as different families need.
I’ll email you Krista!
Ah paint colours… I’m almost ready to go to the paint shop and get some small sample sized cans…
Wow, that is so cool! I can’t wait until we have our own house and can do something like that. I’m glad you got the LC you wanted too. She sounds great.
how cool is taht?! what a fun thing to be creating in your yard. I bet the kids are gitty.
I can’t believe you have all that wooded area behind your house that’s yours! Awesome! I’m so jealous that your treehouse is going up so fast as we are active members of the procrastination club:)
That is very cool… She looks thrilled to be up there!
OK, that’s just too clever by half. We do our own thing but then we are not paid!…..
I don’t think you could possibly know how envious I am of you right now!! The tree fort is going to be fantastic!
Lisa :)
