These are Squares. Three of them actually.
We decided to make a simple shelf to hold some of Lily and Leif’s pretty projects. These are some of the tools we used.
Talking about the concept of Square. The idea of a 90 degree angle is a pretty powerful tool. With a little bit of geometry, you can design and lay out virtually anything of any shape. All based on the 90 degree angle or Square.
Squaring all the way around the board. Getting the end of the shelf stock all the way Square.
Using a Back Saw to make a nice smooth cut. It has a ridgid back (top) which holds the blade nice and straight. It works best to use an exacto-knife first to prevent the good side of the cut from tearing out.
Freehanding the curve for the shelf’s support.
Using a Coping Saw for the curved shelf support.
The almost finished project. Dad had to go back to work before we got a chance to put it all together and up on the wall. We’ll have to finish it one of these evenings.
that looks great!!! I want to be more handy…
What a good Daddy! That looks like fun!
I love how you interpreted the theme square! I can’t tell whether that would be your way of thinking or Cam’s but it certainly work. And for something purposeful? Even better. The crazy part is that I learned something! The names of some common tools that aren’t so common in this house. I hope the shelf gets finished soon and you can bet I’ll be watching to see what goes on it!
Thanks! I had asked Cam to make the shelves and it was his idea to make it work for this project. I had another idea in mind but I can save that for another time! Cam’s a really fun and yes, handy dad. Little wonder how I could love him, eh?
looks like they had lots of fun with daddy! love the pic of her with her foot on the wood board!
Great photos of your steps. I love your take on the theme!! By the way cute header :)
Hey thanks, Dayna! I love that header too!
Isn’t it amazing how our kids love to be a part of our world?
