Today I’m 30. So far 30 doesn’t feel all that different from 29, or even 28. While I have a number of new grey hairs, which really just make me feel dignified, I don’t feel like I look a lot older and I’m not even sure I feel all that wiser.

My mother told me the other day, during one of our bi annual five minute conversations, that 30 was considered “old” when she was this age. She continued by saying that 50 is the new 30. It must be hard turning “old” twice in one’s lifetime.

We aren’t doing anything special for this noteworthy occasion. I’m not much of a partier anymore. If anything an evening with friends and a bottle of good wine would be a perfect way to celebrate.

Cam told me he wanted to find a way to buy us the camera of my dreams but I suggested we wait to see what boxing day sales could do to make that slightly less financially devastating. Ha! He’s been working yesterday and today on a table for our computer. It’s going to be beautiful when it’s finished. I can’t wait to take pictures and show it off.

Cam was voting that I share this first photo of myself but I almost think the second one is more me. Both were take by Paxye when she visited in the summer. I don’t know what the heck was funny but it could have been Paxye suggesting I pose or something for the camera. Ha. Um, no.

Happy Birthday Annie! Both of those are great photos of you. What is the camera of your dreams, just out of curiosity since I love photography too and have a few I would love to get. ;)

    Happy Birthday!!

I love those pics…. but really any of the pics of you are beautiful because you are beautiful…

A new Camera is an AMAZING present… especially the camera that you are looking at ;)

Happy Birthday! I agree that 30 doesn’t feel all that different… although this year is for me. I think 25 was much more monumental and my ma only told me she had the same thoughts at the end of my 25th year. 30 is nothing. 31… I’m not quite decided yet.

I hope you have a great day with family, friends and great food. That’s what birthdays should be about anyways! And I agree – the second photo lis a great one that shows the real you…

It’s strange how we used to laugh when people would ask if we were sisters – I see the similarities between my mom and you all the time now!

    Happy Birthday Annie!!

    I thought 60 was the new 30 ;)

I love both pictures, but if I had to choose, I’m with you – I like the second one!

Hope you have a great day!

Thanks so much, all of you!!

The camera Cam is looking at is the Pentax K20. We have the non digital version with all the lens so to buy the digital body is all we’d need. *swoon*

L- Lately I’ve seen the similarities in us when I look at photos since Lily’s always pulling out the albums- especially ones from Cranbrook.

Penelope, I’ll have to spare my mother the news about 60. She’s almost there and it might break her heart to hear that she’s going to turn “old” yet again.

Happy Birthday! I turned 30 earlier this year and have found an odd pride in my gray streaks. Enjoy!

    Happy Birthday! (a day late)
You share a birthday with my mom! Thirty is great. Thirty is young and you are beautiful! When I turned 30 I felt like a lot of the stuff I didn’t need just fell away. And it was good.

Hi! I’m simply far too sugared up from all those cookies to be going to bed just yet, so time to catch up on some of that commenting I was mentioning I don’t get much time to do… Again, it was so great to meet you, wonderful to cross paths on such a lovely occasion. I am thrilled to know yet another mama in Nanaimo whose heart is on the NVC path and who is passionate about this growing consciousness. We could have some great chats with tea… empathy anyone? Don’t we all need regular doses of that? Lovely to meet your family. Keep in touch! K

  11. Krista says:

Oh! And I did it again! I meant to wish you a happy birthday this evening, then I meant to in the comment above… ack. Sugar is yummy but it makes my brain useless. That, combined with the sleep deprivation…

Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday to you. Those photos are so sunny and warm and happy. :)

  12. Annie says:

Muah! You’re all so sweet! It was a great birthday!

Peggy, I’m noticing what you say the more as I get older. I carry less and less baggage which makes simply enjoying life easier.

Krista, I’d love to chat and use/practice nvc with each other some time. I don’t do that enough these days. I’m always open for tea or whatever. Perhaps an afternoon multi family survivor challenge is in order? We could all work to get through the course together. With two construction type husbands like ours it could be really interesting.

I’ll tell you something funny about those pictures. I look like I’m posing but my hands on my hips have more to do with airing my underarms because it was a HOT day in the summer. Ha.

Happy, happy, HAPPY birthday! I hope you get that camera soon…

30 was a huge year for me, for personal reasons. It felt like a huge accomplishment.
