More than two weeks I’ve been away. It feels so good to be home such an thoroughly enjoyable trip. My family flew us down rather last minute and we spent the first week visiting with my grandparents and extended family. Two weeks without email and spotty internet was actually a nice break. I’m glad to be back!
I’m so lucky to still have all four of my grandparents. I grew up with them all living in walking distance from my house and they are great friends with each other. Now one from each pair lives in a senior’s home. It’s the sweetest thing that the grandparent living on their own faithfully visits their partner every day. Both sets of grandparents have been married for 63 years!
Visiting was bittersweet. A year and a half ago I thought I might never see two of my grandparents again. I feel so grateful for another chance and yet again I’m left with that feeling that it might be the last time.
I can’t wait to share a bit more about our trip down to the lower mainland! We were very busy with a visit to the dentist (twice for me), thrift shopping, riding the buses and sky train and swimming at a local club. There was even a couple rides on my dad’s Harley. For our second week we headed over to Gabriola Island for a visit with one of my best friends. Most noteworthy was the dispatching of four roosters. I’ll definitely be blogging about that first time experience. We made tree swings, ate from the huge garden’s bounty, shucked beans, worked on basket making, spent time with friends and ate ridiculously good food. Oh, I have so many killer recipes to share!
Can’t wait for the recipes!
But we’re glad you’re back.
I can totally relate to the gratitude you have for your grandparents. I have none left after just losing my dear grandma (at 90) in April. They are special people, grandparents.
Looking forward to reading about your adventures. I’m glad you are back. xoxo Debbie
When you said, “…a year and a half ago, I thought I might never see two of my grandparents again…” I thought, I bet they thought that about you too, when you moved.
So, consider thinking of thegreatness of the gift you’ve been able to give them by visiting. Time to see you and their great-grandchildren. Precious time and memories. Sooo worth it, and of course it would be your focus while away!
Sounded fantasticly heart-and-soul filling!!!
And, we’ll meet one day :-)
Thank you for including me in your Sensible Living site and Photostream! I really appreciate it! Lily and Leif are growing up so fast! Makes me feel a sense of urgency to want to see them more often! Thanks again, Jan
So glad to be back, Jo! I can’t thank Matt enough for the rides to and from the airport bus. We should do a supper some time soon? Cam’s practically 100%.
Thanks so much for the wonderful words. I still feel a bit choked up talking about this topic. It’s hard for me to talk about family love and loss…
