My little man turned four yesterday!

He doesn't want to take off his new shoes

I’ve been feeling so distracted lately! It’s been a stressful few days with some funding/communication issues (again) with Self Design and sad feelings watching friends preparing to move away in the next couple days. We’d been planning a sushi supper here for the last week and yet I almost forgot it was Leif’s birthday as well! All turned out well and I was able to get all I needed to get done before the party started.

I made the same simple but delicious cake that I made last year for Leif’s birthday but with some slight adjustments to the recipe which made the cake better than ever, if I do say so myself. (I have since updated the recipe.) I’d been reminiscing with friends that afternoon about cakes from our childhood with hidden tooth crackers nickels and quarters inside, so I thought I’d surprise everyone with a few coins (penny, quarter and loonie) wrapped in plastic wrap or wax paper hidden between the layers of the cake. What a fun surprise!

Happy Four Birthday!

We hired local chef Matt to make sushi for us this night. A shockingly affordable option for an amazing array of sushi in the comfort of our own home. Matt has done sushi for us before but we were none the less impressed with his skills and the resulting delicious meal. (He is available locally!) Most of the seafood was provided by Keith, who’s an avid fisherman.

You might start to notice the occasional photo taken with Cam’s nikon. I’m desperately wanting a flash for my camera and decided to pick up his for a few pictures. I don’t find it easy to navigate though. I think I need a little bit of time to get to know this camera before really feeling comfortable but I enjoyed the lack of struggle with low lighting!

Pow!

We did coins in cupcakes for Eibhlin’s birthday last year, and it was so fun to see the excitement in the kids faces. Such a fun tradition!
