It was a busy but fun filled weekend Broom busting again this weekend. This time we stayed two nights and three days over at Gabriola Island. The food was marvellous and the company delightful. It’s almost comic though looking at the pictures I took of the weekend and not one of them includes actually pulling Broom. I can assure you that a great deal was pulled. We were all sufficiently filthy and worn out by the end of each day. Everyone came away generally unscathed but me. I got a small second degree burn on my arm at the end of the last day from the end of a charcoaled branch. Ouch! It’s so painful but Paxye’s suggestion of honey is working famously already.

Leif’s enthusiasm was extraordinary. He wanted to help carry pulled broom to the bonfires, throw it and debris in the fire and even “help”, in his own way, with the building of the Pooper. Certainly, he didn’t have the stamina for a whole day and would nap in the Beco or sit staring into the warm fire.

What would a Broom busting day without chocolate look like? We have no idea.

Floor for the bucket under the seat:

Lily and Steve picking apples in the early morning in the ancient orchard (can you see the long poled fruit picker?) for drying over the woodstove. Lily then helped peel, core and slice the apples all at once. I ended up ordering my own machine from Lee Valley late last night!

Evening fun with candles. Not to forget the warm bubble bath before bed.

Wow that’s so cool that you’re helping friends with a loo and broom removal – it even looks like you’ve all had fun doing it! Makes shovelling the driveway for my neighbours seem so insignificant. Thanks for sharing the story of your weekend!

I love that feeling of physical exhaustion. And that apple peeler looks so awesome. We have a Lee Valley Hardware close by and I’m thinking it might make a *wonderful* Christmas gift. Hmmmm.

We did have fun and are already looking forward to the next round. Gawd knows there’s going to be, oh about two decades more until it’s finally all caught up thanks to the bzillion seeds that have been dropped over the years.

I love it too Karen. It feels so good to feel so productive. You live *close* to a Lee Valley? I don’t think I could ever live close to one. I would spend way too much money in there. You know, when I first saw the apple peeler I was like, wow it peels the apple in five seconds. Really that was all I thought. They I tried it and my excitement grew. Everyone that tired it felt that way.

What a fantastic weekend. I bet it felt so good to work outdoors and help friends and relax afterwards. I really love the picture with the candles! And that apple peeler looks very cool too.

I’m coveting that peeler and stove! Your camera seemed to do quite well taking beautiful pictures of your 3 days there. Ah, suburbia where I live, has nothing on that Gabriola property!!
