Have I seemed a bit distant this week? I’ve felt a bit preoccupied since my best friend Paxye came to visit. We’ve been chatting, taking pictures, adoring her wee babe Wilhelmina and a couple days ago we went out on a friend’s boat for a cruise around the harbour.

Feeding Frenzy!

We came across a huge congregation of birds, including an eagle, all flying around and diving into the water, coming up and fighting over caught fish. It was a huge feeding frenzy! It was probably a school of salmon feeding on and pushing some smaller fish like anchovies closer to the surface and the birds were taking advantage. Perfect time to drop our own line and see what we could catch.

Splash!

With those less enthused with fishing aboard we didn’t try for too long before moving on.

Might as well wet the line where the birds are feeding

We headed over to Dodge Cove which is just across the harbour from where I live. They have a great playground to play at with a circular swing set for four and huge tractor like tires to climb up on.

Hurry Up Mama!!

It was so neat being able to clearly see my house from the dock! We also saw a BC Ferry coming in to dock at the terminal.

Looking at Prince Rupert from Dodge Cove

Before heading home we stopped at our dropped crab traps and were shocked at our catch! We were of course happy to see two Dungeness Crabs and three Alaskan King Crabs. What was so surprising was finding three Halibut in the crab trap! They were too small to keep and threw them back with the crabs too small or female.

So far our visit is wonderful. I’m loving having tiny Wilhelmina in my arms and of course talking to Paxye is so much easier when I don’t have a phone balanced on my shoulder.

Potty-ing

Paxye’s posted quite a few photos so far of her visit. I’m loving the different perspective she has on where I live. She also has a great wide angle lens, so is able to capture a bit more of the action.

So digging the pictures she took of your family. The other side of the lense so to speak. I love how real they show you and your family. Sometimes when we blog we show only the perfect and not the wide angle of true life right :) and it was a sweet glimpse into your life that I loved to see. I hope you find yourself visiting New England in the years to come.. because we have plenty of room for you here :)

You both take such fabulous pictures. I really enjoy your posts. What a lucky catch! We don’t get much in the way of crab around here. I love Prince Rupert and your pictures are great for translating that beauty. Enjoy your visit together.
