We had our Canadian Thanksgiving Supper early this year since we’re at our cabin right now. (No internet or even power at our property but I magically scheduled this post- at least I hope it will work!) We talked about doing a thanksgiving meal out there but decided for simplicities sake, we’d do it beforehand.

I’m surprised at how few photos I took now that I look at them. Not one picture taken during supper! I suppose that’s an indication of how busy we were, or maybe how late we ate- having to wait for everyone to get off work, or perhaps it’s an indication of how much wine we drank?

So here’s what and how I made what I did and a few shots of what my friend Erin contributed. Our combined efforts made a wonderful meal. I’m truly thankful for good friends, those at supper and not.

Cranberry Sauce in the making

Orange Cranberry Sauce

  • 1 bag fresh Cranberries
  • 2- 3 Oranges, juiced (or 1 cup Orange Juice)
  • 3/4- 1 cup Sugar
  1. Heat orange juice and sugar in a pot until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add cranberries and stir intermittently until cranberries pop and the sauce thickens. Take off heat.
  3. Mash or not (I don’t) and sauce will thicken as it cools.

The leftover sauce was used in a banana bread we made for the trip.

For the turkey, I use Elton Brown’s Turkey recipe which you can find here. Brining the turkey a day before is so worth it. It makes the turkey extra moist and delicious.

Aromatics for the Turkey

Jamie Oliver’s Sticky Carrots.

Brian stepped up to do the carving and I like to call his style ‘Barbarian Bohemian’. It was darn tasty if not conventional.
